So where’s the art? Why is Galactic Studios a studio? Here’s the movie that (re-)started it all.
“Galactic Studios” is certainly a grandiose, pretentious name. And the slogan “The Artistic Wanderings of a Technical Mind” doesn’t seem well supported by the overwhelmingly technical content of this site (the slogan is partially ironic and partially justified; my tech projects do have some art in them, even if it’s just the enclosure).
I coined the name “Galactic Studios” when I was 14 and making home movies. That’s young enough that my arrogance and delusions of grandeur should be excusable. My proudest achievement was a stop-motion animated movie called “Little Green Junkman”. My nostalgic return to the hobbies of my youth – movie making and electronics – began in 2003, when I made a CGI re-make of “Little Green Junkman”. I present it here for your amusement, and as a justification for my use of the name “Galactic Studios”.
It is so hard to find good quality Science Fiction on film. Finally, a story that is thought-provoking as well as entertaining. Are you going to make a 3D version? I hope not. Gimmicks like that are just added to obscure the lack of good story telling and characterization. I have only one minor quibble. It would have been good to make the celestial mechanics more realistic. And I would have enjoyed learning more about the ship’s life support system. Two minor quibbles – celestial mechanics, life support, and something about the effect of lower gravity and thinner air on metallurgy. Three minor quibbles.
